Meta Tags
Meta tags are HTML codes that give information about a webpage to search engines. They are not barely visible for visitors but search engines can gather information about web pages by meta tags. This helps search engines to categorize web pages better.
Some Important Meta Tags
Title Tag
HTML Code: <title>Title here</title>
Title tags are automatically added to the pages at Joomla websites and SMF forums. This title should not be so long.
Description Tag
HTML Code: <meta name="description" content="Description of the page should be written here" />
Description tag gives brief information about a web page. Length of this tag should be one or two sentences.
Keyword Tag
HTML Code: <meta name="keyword" content="keyword 1, keyword 2, keyword 3" />
Keyword tag defines the keywords for the page. You can use this meta tag to define a few meta tags for a web page.
How to Add Meta Tag into Page
SMF: If you created a forum with SMF, you cannot insert meta tags into pages. Besides, it is not possible to insert meta tag for each topic created on a forum. That's why you can skip this page if you wish.
Joomla: In order to add meta tags to a page, click the article manager button and select an article to edit. You will see metadata section at the right bottom of the page. Click the Metadata link and you will see blanks to fill. Type proper meta description and keywords and click the save button. That's all...
