In order to make search engines be aware of your website, you should submit your website to them. You can use Add Your URL to Google page to submit your website to Google. As written on the page I gave, you only need to add main url of your website. After this submission, Google bots will visit your website's homepage and index it. Later then, it will follow the links found on your homepage and index all pages of your website.
Sitemaps
Sitemaps are files which has links to all pages of a webpage. In order to make sure that all pages of your website are visible to search engines, you should generate a sitemap for your website and submit it to search engines.
If you built a website with Dreamweaver, you can create a sitemap for your website from XML Sitemaps page.
If you built a website with Joomla, or created a forum with SMF you can create sitemap file by using sitemap generator extensions. These extensions are available at official Joomla and SMF websites.
Submit Sitemap
To submit a sitemap to Google, you should create a Google account and create a website profile at Webmaster Tools page. Later, click the Site configuration>Sitemaps links to submit your sitemap.
